2. Attack the weak, fear the strong: DDD (the entire Necropolis philosophy is built on this: we attack the weak and grow, we think about the strong and immediately fall apart into small pieces).
Regarding leveling up archers: I played against a mage on a large map. I entered his city with 2.5k+ archers, 1k+ zombies, 300+ vampires, 200+ liches, 40+ dragons, etc. I could have entered much earlier, but I wanted to raise as many troops as possible. In general, as you can easily guess, no artifacts and the frequency of the mage's spellcasting saved him.
