I might not even know who among them were those who escaped/were killed, and who weren't!!!

This was discussed somewhere before (unfortunately, I can't find where), but it said that a player is not allowed to buy an enemy hero if the hero is not level 1 or has artifacts.

But you can, of course, leave it as is and hope that VDV_forever accepts your save...
