How many factions are there?

However, even now, with 8 factions already available, many feel that it's not enough. Looking at two threads about creating a swamp faction and a second Dungeon faction, and the number of forum users supporting these ideas, we can conclude that 8 is still too few. By the way, the developers came up with a great idea to add one faction in each new expansion pack.
