Axel Von Himmel - Knight of the Gloomy Sky
Axel | Axel's father moved to the capital when the boy was five years old. Klavius Von Himmel was a well-known and influential entrepreneur in the tavern business. But the peculiarities of life in Albus did not satisfy his ambitions. He wanted more and gradually managed to break into the Kanamia market. At that point, the wealth accumulated by the elder Himmel would have been enough for several lifetimes. Their family denied themselves nothing, but not being particularly fond of luxury, they lived rather modestly by Kanamia's standards. A personal estate outside the city, servants, a stable, small hunting grounds, and property in the city for rent. Axel spent his entire childhood in the family home. Neither his father nor his mother liked the city and only went there when necessary. The boy was also repulsed by crowds of strangers of varying degrees of cleanliness and sanity. Therefore, he happily stayed at home, occasionally visiting his parents' friends and receiving guests at his own home. Most of the time, his father and mother devoted to the family business, so Axel had a great deal of freedom. He was practically forced into nothing; he chose all his pursuits himself. He took up horseback riding, drawing, archery, the art of swordsmanship, and reading various kinds of literature. Klavius Von Himmel passed away at a not very advanced age from an incurable lung disease. Unfortunately, by that time, the tavern business was going extremely poorly. Many of the Himmels' establishments had closed, and the remaining ones brought in too little profit. Maya - Axel's mother, unable to solve the entrepreneurial problems on her own, decided to sell off the remnants of the business. The situation forced Axel to look for WORK. There weren't many options; everything Axel knew how to do could only be useful in one profession. The younger Himmel entered royal service at the age of nineteen. Becoming a knight was a natural continuation of his essence. But the need to WORK and be an errand dog for the royal family deeply oppressed Axel. Already a rather taciturn and withdrawn young man, he became even more taciturn and withdrawn. When Axel was twenty-five years old, he married Morgana - the daughter of a local baron. They have been married for thirteen years now. From the outside, it might seem that things are not quite right in their family, just as with them themselves. The silent, gloomy, cold Axel, cutting through the air above people's heads on a large black wyvern. And Morgana: a talkative, daring, and insolent woman who adores drawing, poisonous flowers, cemeteries, and their and Axel's five children. Despite family problems at a certain stage of the relationship, a true idyll reigned in the Himmel family. The quirks and peculiarities of each harmoniously intertwined into a bizarre form of mutual understanding, love, and loyalty. The family had almost no friends. Ordinary nobles were put off by such a strange couple. And the Himmels themselves did not like people as such. Therefore, they spent most of their free time with each other and pursuing their favorite pastimes. *** Arriving home, Axel walked at a leisurely pace into the main hall. A deep nocturnal silence reigned in the house. All the servants were already asleep. They had been ordered never to wait for the master if he did not return before sunset, and no one dared to break this order. Not a single candle burned in the corridors; only the rare lights in the wall sconces at the entrance to the main hall barely dispelled the darkness. The hall itself was spacious and tall, with massive stone walls adorned with paintings painted by the mistress of the estate and trophies won by the master. Heavy wooden beams were lost in the semi-darkness under the ceiling. The large windows on both sides of the room were covered with thick burgundy curtains that let in neither the moonlight nor the cold night air. The only truly bright source of light remained the massive fireplace at the far end of the hall. The logs in the fireplace were slowly burning out. The fire crackled, occasionally throwing up showers of sparks and painting the walls with a warm reddish glow. In front of the fireplace lay a large dark carpet, and opposite it, slightly aside from the direct heat, stood a wide sofa with a high back. Its upholstery was dark red, almost black in the shadows, and several heavy cushions lay along its edges. Next to the sofa stood a small low table of dark wood. On it were two bottles of wine. One bottle was completely empty and lay on its side, leaving a small stain on the tabletop. In the second, a little red liquid still remained. Only Morgana was still awake. She lay on the sofa, facing the fireplace. Her body was relaxed only at first glance - one leg was bent, the other almost touched the floor, and her arm hung limply over the edge of the sofa. In her fingers, she still held a glass that she had stopped drinking from long ago. Her gaze was fixed on the fire, but she seemed to notice neither the flames nor the room around her. Morgana always waited for her husband. The woman was afraid to sleep alone and could not fall asleep until Axel returned home. The heavy doors of the main hall had already closed behind Axel. For a few seconds, he stood still, letting his eyes adjust to the semi-darkness. His gaze quickly swept across the room and stopped on his wife. Axel immediately noticed the bottles on the table. Then - the glass in her hand. And only after that did he look at her herself. There was neither surprise nor relief in his expression from the fact that she had waited for him. On the contrary, the longer he looked, the stronger his displeasure became. Morgana, sensing his gaze, struggled to raise herself on her elbow. The glass remained clutched in her hand. - My love! You're here! And I thought you'd left me for some peasant whore! The woman spoke incoherently, dropping and slurring her letters; the alcohol had done its work. Lately, Morgana had taken a liking to wine. Axel disliked this immensely. Fortunately, seeing her in such a sorry state was extremely rare. A log collapsed in the fireplace with a crack. The flaring flame briefly illuminated Morgana's face - tired and slightly flushed from the wine she had drunk. - You're drunk, - said Axel, slowly removing his gloves and placing them on the nearest edge of the table. The woman's words evoked no emotion on Axel's face. The knight certainly did not bother to make excuses; besides, he and Morgana had long since closed the topic of peasant women. She knew this, but in such a state, she could not control the urge to needle her spouse. Axel slowly approached her and looked intently into her eyes. - Go on then! Hit me! You like hitting me, I know it! - said the woman, taking a sip of wine. Himmel did indeed enjoy hitting her. Not hard enough to ruin her beautiful looks, but hard enough to hurt. Morgana, however, also enjoyed it when he hit her. It was an unspoken agreement. Everyone was satisfied, everyone was pleased. The knight abruptly snatched the glass from her hand and hurled it into the fireplace. The remaining wine splattered across the room. Both bottles followed, their glass shattering in all directions. Axel raised his hand, intending to slap his wife. She instinctively ducked, covering her face with her hands and closing her eyes. But the knight did not strike immediately. Waiting for the moment when the woman lowered her hands and looked at him, he struck harder than usual. Morgana sobbed and fell onto the carpet. The lower part of the woman's face turned red. Just a split lip, but it looks impressive. With one hand, Axel grabbed her by the hair and pulled her toward the sofa. - Oh! Ow! - the woman's groans were heard. The knight sat down on the sofa and pulled his wife closer to his leg. Then he began to stroke her head like a cat. Stroking his wife was Axel's favorite way to relax and clear his head of dark thoughts. Morgana merely breathed quietly, resting her head against her husband's leg and holding her split lip. - Stop drinking. That swill is made for the rabble, to keep them submissive and senseless. Are you rabble? |
