Exactly 20 years ago — on May 19, 2006 — the official premiere of the legendary Heroes of Might and Magic V took place in the CIS.
You can have different opinions about this installment, but it is worth admitting that it is still the same Heroes, and probably the best installment of Heroes in 3D format, as well as the most active part of the forum.
The game went through a real production hell and a real battle with the publisher Ubisoft, and despite everything, it is a powerful nostalgia trip and a tribute to the games of the 2000s.
In honor of this great anniversary, I have created what I believe to be an important event for the game in our Russian-speaking community.
I took on a very large task on my own: to completely update the quality of the original game interface, without changing the overall structure, that is, to improve the quality while preserving the UI concept.
The project was given the name Legacy Classic.Legacy is a fact of heritage; players have kept the game alive with mods, created a lot of content, and deserve to see another mod, a truly necessary mod.Classic is a vector for preserving the spirit of the classic and the style of the original.Since the amount of work for one person is simply enormous, the modification will be released in stages, in the form of large patches.
Nival has a lot of things in the archives - chaos, unnecessary files, errors, and one element being linked to multiple places, etc.
And today, on the anniversary in the CIS, I am glad to present you with information about the first patch.
Large-scale upscale:
Almost all of the main UI has been upscaled to new sizes, the style is the same as in 2006.
Some small elements have been redrawn from scratch, some have been replaced with new ones that visually match the designers' solution.
Buttons, backgrounds, and rendering elements for all sections in all modes (including in the Campaigns) and options have been updated, except for connecting to Ubisoft servers for obvious reasons.
At the same time, a small group of old visual errors has been fixed.
Several materials from the Community have been used, as well as my own visual solutions.
Backgrounds for the launcher when starting the game and loading screens on maps outside of scenarios have been created from scratch. Now you can choose the vibe of your favorite Faction, put it in the mod folder, and you will have a launcher background and improved loading screens on a common gray background, as is customary in the game, with the Faction you like. Concept art of the Factions' high-level creatures from Nival was used as a basis, and slightly adjusted/redrawn.I recommend using it together with a mod for the castle scene in the main menu.
Game experience: for owners of old resolutions, the experience will still be new. The interface will look like a more neat and fresh version of the original interface, more detailed than the original. For owners of 2K and higher monitors, this will be a new gaming experience with a more noticeable quality that pleases the eye.The first screenshots, recommendations, acknowledgments for materials, and information about the first patch and release date will be provided soon.I declare that patch 1.0 will be released in the first half of this summer.
It will be interesting to see.

I also worked on the classic interface for NVS 3.0. But you will probably surpass me.
