The Lord is more alive than dead

If you mean the Guardians of the Shroud of Eternal Night — they aren't meant to be taken by the player. On the contrary, it's the AI that will try to crush them, and your task is to prevent it from reaching them. This is mentioned at the very end of the description of the bonus quest for the shroud.
