Forums are the top. Within specific sections, more or less active users know each other, which creates a natural and healthy ecosystem with an objective reputation system, relationships develop and strengthen over many years. Another thing is that through profile customization, users can express themselves and supplement their image with a visual component. In contrast, on platforms like Reddit, communication is limited to "threads" where users reply to specific comments rather than maintaining a general discussion topic, plus formatting is limited, not to mention minimal profile customization; all of this, combined with an overly large audience, creates the impression of interacting with a "gray mass" (and lately, with bots as well), compared to forum-based personal communication within a limited circle of people.

By the way, I'm tired of the topic of hating social networks and online communication in general. I remember I had a very unhealthy atmosphere at school, plus there were constant scandals at home, no IRL friends, but I could log into HeroesWorld (and, to a lesser extent, other places too) any day and chat with someone, do something interesting and creative, etc. I think in those years it really helped me develop communication skills, imagination, and many other things.
