BUT Illithids are associated with D&D. And they are different there.

Beholders in D&D are also quite different. I understand that Aschan was initially conceived as a plagiarism and borrowing of almost everything from almost everywhere, but if Illithids and Beholders are very cool in D&D, that doesn't mean they should be the same in Heroes.
