Schizophrenia is generally diagnosed reluctantly. Initially, they usually settle for depression or a personality disorder, just to be on the safe side. But if you repeatedly exhibit the corresponding symptoms, then yes, they might diagnose you.

As for me, I have an acquaintance who actually has schizophrenia, but to avoid complications, they simply diagnose her with depression, even though the medication they prescribe is specifically for schizophrenia.
