If there were no photo proofs of his elven nature, then it's unlikely. But it's quite possible that he was rejected because he was below the level of an elf. If you don't measure up to an elf, you need to compensate with something: money, charisma, the ability to talk, common interests, etc. A friend's son was once rejected because he wasn't a musician. If he had been a true elf or a musician, that wouldn't have happened. An elf can only ruin things if he does absolutely nothing, just ignores everyone and avoids them.
