If the visuals require players to get used to them, then they are bad visuals. If the interface is not intuitive and requires time to find basic options, then it is a bad interface. Games exist for relaxation and entertainment; they should be convenient, enjoyable, clear, and as obvious as possible. The problem with the local graphics isn't that they are a matter of taste, but that it's simply difficult to navigate and understand what is a resource, a unit, a castle, or just a decoration. Compared to this beauty, the seventh installment already seems like a design masterpiece to me.
