In the end, it's just stupid to pay 100 rubles per hour when you have a whole bunch of games at home for every taste (2/3 of them I don't even know what they are, since I haven't even opened or installed them.

Clubs are just a place for hanging out with friends, in my opinion. Although some people went there alone.

I agree with Aro. Yes, we had a lot of single-player games and more at home, but we went to the club to play together with friends.
Plus, don't forget that it was the era of local networks. My friends in the neighborhood had their own large network spanning several houses, they played Counter-Strike there and didn't go to the club at all - there was simply no need. But we didn't have a local network. That's why we went to the club a couple of times a month. But how many emotions we had!

Counter-Strike is just well-known and simple, that's why we played it. But if you have more knowledgeable friends, you could play something else.

Yes, that's true. There were many games installed in the club, but we only launched the ones we knew. And these were CS (I remember starting with 1.3, then 1.4 appeared), Warcraft 3 (and the first Dota in it), and Unreal Tournament 1999.
