We’ve turned into a Hive, things are getting serious.

Yeah, it's fine in the second part; there's just no point in constantly casting spells, especially on weak enemies. But against golems and dragons, it's good, considering that warriors often die quickly against them.
And in the first part, you can use ranged attacks against distant enemies when it's difficult to get through the melee. But usually, I kill bosses with wizards and the like, just filling the entire map with magic. 😎
