Heroes 3 on widescreen monitors?

When you press the F4 key, the game switches to windowed mode, which is very inconvenient for playing. When you click on the Display tab, you cannot change the resolution; you can only switch to fullscreen mode, and everything is still stretched... Maybe there is another option?
