I stumbled upon this video. The guy caught almost all the units, even assembled the mysterious secret faction and no less mysterious elves. Oh, how I'm going to criticize the designs 🤣 But not now, I'm just too lazy. I didn't even watch the whole video, I just clicked on each unit and didn't listen to the guy's valuable opinion.
In short, there are a few good solutions, but overall there are a lot of questions and a lot of experimentation; the game doesn't feel like Heroes. Experiments and new units are good, but there aren't enough old units that would evoke nostalgia and provide a sense of familiarity. And yes, the models are blurry, gray, and hard to distinguish; the guy even complained a couple of times that he couldn't tell if they were different units or just upgrades of the same one.
I read the comments, and one guy said something good there, finally articulating what my problem is with the designs of the sixth and, God forgive me, seventh games, and why I like the designs of the first five games more.
BUT i have to say: The main difference between old HoMM game art and newer HoMM game art is the theme. The old games have ''old school fantasy'' design with wizards and warlocks in fancy robes, fairytale and myth creatures that look straight out of old fairytale books and all that stuff. The newer games are more ''fancy futuristic armor design and super laser angels fighting some sort of bionicle monsters and stuff''. It's very clear which direction olden era has. It's the laser angel one... And i'm a little bit sad about it to be honest.Another good comment, which I agree with, essentially repeats my thought that there is not enough classic content and that experiments are not always a good thing.
Needs barbarian and wizard factions, too. The dwarves were also a nice touch. The focus on insects and sea creatures misses the mark for me.
