It's just that many artists are drawing in a similar style these days, that's all. And there's a feeling that it doesn't quite match the design of the rest. As for what was in Heroes 6 and 7, I don't know, but in the others, some of the faces were always poorly drawn. The best ones were in Heroes 2 and partially in Heroes 3.
