I had the same problem. I tried all sorts of troubleshooting steps, but Maya 6.0 wouldn't launch at all. The problem lies with Windows. There's a solution: install an emulator with a different version of Windows, install Maya in it, and simply load the models within that environment. That's what I did and still do . If it's relevant, write to me in a private message, and I'll explain everything in detail. Or I can describe the whole process here. It's a fairly simple process.
