Initially, there are two heroes (later, even 10), one gathers resources, and the other (the main one) levels up; usually, the main one turns out to be mobile... although sometimes they get bad skills... and the second one definitely levels up on their own... or defends the castle, or loots chests, or something else, and then finishes off enemy armies...
Recently, I completed a campaign for the Swamp faction, and in addition to the main hero, there was also a second one... a level 22 demon! And a couple more +10... they were very helpful, one on this side, the other on that side, etc.)) But this is a campaign, and everything is different there)).
