Lae'zel seemed boring to me. Well, on the one hand, she is more grounded – a simple soldier, raised in specific conditions. But I was annoyed by her arrogance.
She later outgrows this arrogance.Author
That's why she was replaced by Karlach as soon as I met her.
I also played with the Astarion-Shadowheart-Karlach party.Author
But overall, I also don't like the trend that starting with one of the companions gives you more content than creating your own character. However, as I understand it, this is more or less compensated by the Dark Urge, because you can give him any appearance and role-play as you like due to the "memory loss." But playing as such a character with a number of drawbacks is not for those who prefer a good playthrough.
That's why I said that it would be better to have more options like the Dark Urge. However, I disagree that it is only suitable for an evil playthrough. There are enough special dialogues if you specifically try to resist it. In fact, many moments indicate that the player was originally intended to be the Dark Urge by default, but then it was decided to divide custom characters into him and a more vanilla option, devoid of special content.Author
In general, I personally noticed that Larian has one common problem – the first act in both games is great, the second is more or less okay (in BG, however, I liked the second act a little more due to the need to search for light in the cursed forest, and all these crazy relatives of Thorm are also quite amusing), and then it starts to get really bad. In the case of Original Sin 2, it would have been better to end it with a battle on the island, and not turn it into a hassle with running around Arx, where the party is already leveled up to god-like levels and can defeat everyone like nuts, even without using the Source. In BG3, the Gates of Baldur themselves are quite boring, the city is large, there is a lot of stuff, but the party reaches level 12 by this point and also defeats everyone like nuts. Yes, there is a lot of good gear in the city, but the "anal rape squad" can easily cope without it on tactics.
In BG3, the plot also starts to fall apart in places after the first act. I remember people, including many acquaintances, praising the second act as a super-cool plot with an awesome antagonist... well, I think I don't need to describe how absurd Ketheric and his family turned out to be. The old man's motivation is very weak, and at the same time, in certain moments, he felt like a watered-down version of Irenicus. He might seem cool only against the background of Gortash, who is a bum with one and a half cutscenes, and the incompetent infantile Orin.
