On the way to the inn, she starts a conversation:
- I hope this messenger pigeon will do its job perfectly. And the girl is pleasant - this town continues to warm my soul. It's beautiful and peaceful here...
After a moment of silence, she continues:
- Do you remember our first meeting, Edgelord-kun? When you offered me "something" in exchange for a card, and I refused, citing my religious beliefs... I didn't come up with that on the spot to avoid something unpleasant. It would have been much easier for me to accept it and deal with the issue once and for all, even if I would have considered it something unworthy in my worldview, although my worldview would have been different in that case, because it is built on the foundations of the path I follow, - she paused for a moment. - You, as a resident of a modern, progressive empire with its relaxed morals, may find this wild or unbelievable, but it is the truth in a way that you cannot even imagine. Our people have survived times of severe hardship and long, bloody wars - both conquering and defensive, against entities whose very mention fills my mind with disgust, and were forged by these events, with the will of the Kami-sama, into what they are today. That is why we honor our traditions, our code, and our beliefs - against the grain of globalist trends. Can you imagine, for example, that a samurai - a warrior - who has failed his lord is expected to commit seppuku in a ceremonial manner, in order to leave life while preserving his honor? Silly, isn't it? After all, there is a reasonable principle: "survive today to fight tomorrow." But that is his path. It gives his existence meaning and reinforces the contract with the Kami-sama, which has ensured the protection and prosperity of our people.
She sighs.
- I am not a samurai, but I am close to this way of thinking. There are things in our universe that are more important than such transient states as "earthly material life." Therefore... I would like to die one day in a heroic battle with an otherworldly entity, or at least of old age. But if it comes to my version of dishonor, then I will not escape such a fate. I am telling you all this not to influence you in any way, but rather... just so that you understand. Now that I have decided to choose a policy of sincerity. It is not the path that most women choose - usually, it chooses them, as it was in my case. But I do not see myself outside of it and intend to go through it to the end. Otherwise, it would be equivalent to the death of my soul and my entire being.
After walking a dozen steps, she stretches and yawns with feigned carelessness:
- Hoo-o, listen to her, bringing darkness into this beautiful summer day. She found the time and place for such conversations, what can you do. All these newcomers need is a little real work - and then the nonsense will clear out of their heads, - but despite the tone, as she said this, her sad gaze wandered somewhere on the distant cliffs on the edge of the visible horizon.
