It was necessary to focus on the facts. The facts were that they hadn't even come close to completing the mission. It was even possible that it had become impossible. There was no point in hoping for a miracle, for the arrival of an envoy from Her Majesty. The most sensible option was to reach the nearest city. And then, depending on the situation, if her companions happened to be nearby, they could set off again and make some plans. Otherwise, she would earn money for a return ticket and sail to Margel to report the failure to Her Highness. But going to the city without provisions was a risky undertaking. Even suicidal. And it would also be helpful to figure out where north was and where south was. Therefore, before making any hasty decisions, Alaria began to do just that – she tried to determine the poles, combining this with searching for provisions or, perhaps, something else useful that the sea might have washed ashore. Perhaps some equipment. Or at least some fish.
