- When we discussed spiritual matters a week ago, I mentioned "demons" - malevolent entities born from the underworld, possessing both physical and incorporeal forms, and obsessed with destruction. This is a general term, common among the main human population in those lands, but we have a vast number of variations, including yokai - spirits whose cunning and cruelty have become legendary. Since the beginning of time, my homeland, Nihon, has suffered from this threat more than any other nation, but we are also the only ones fortunate enough to have a close spiritual connection with the Kami - true, nature-divine entities of a higher order, existing long before humans. As a sign of their favor for our people's natural respect and worship, and due to their creative nature, they have bestowed upon us their patronage and protection. My Yanagi Temple follows this path further than most. One of the derivatives of our piety is the ability to look beyond the material realm and, with the support of the Kami, eradicate any impure influence through the power of will - whether it be a demon, yokai, restless soul, or their influence. As I mentioned before, I sensed such an influence from the guard, and also from Aria-dono. In our case, this would mean that an incorporeal demonic entity or evil spirit has enslaved this person, or - that he himself is originally a creature from the underworld, only by chance or with a specific intent posing as a human. In this case, the source that concentrated the bloodthirsty madness was this very "heart." Unexpectedly, I managed to physically separate it from the host - this was not the result I could have predicted beforehand. But now I am beginning to understand the reasons. However... Perhaps the details here were unnecessary, as you are familiar with the concept of "exorcism," even if the local nuances are unknown to me.
