I can't pretend that it's disgusting. I like the Trill from Star Trek, the Tok'ra from Stargate, I have a race of symbiotic creatures in my comic setting, I have nothing against parasites and symbionts. Even if it turns out to be a disadvantage in terms of gameplay and role-playing, I just love these things.
