The captain's rival is present in the multiplayer mode; his name is Barbossa.

In theory, the monkey could be considered the captain's rival, especially considering who it's named after. However, that would be a trick by the Master, who would intentionally describe the monkey in that way. So, I tend to agree that the Lizard was Barbossa.
