The latest expansion pack has been released. Now, certain things are clear.

Regarding the atmosphere – I've played all the Heroes games (though not much of the first and fourth). And playing the fifth installment, I can feel it, and I don't think it's far from the atmosphere of the third part. The question of how to find the atmosphere is just as inappropriate as the question of how to get pleasure; it's all subjective, and everyone experiences this atmosphere differently.
