In the past, Thomas was involved in land-based trade. His thirst for profit was so strong that he took on the dirtiest and most risky jobs. At some point, he resorted to trading in people and weapons. But fortune turned against Fäthingberg; the authorities learned about his shady dealings and put a bounty on the slave trader's head. Thomas had to flee and eventually ended up on a pirate ship. Not the worst place for such a vile person as he is. But Fäthingberg doesn't like the sea, so he wants to settle somewhere far away from the Old World as soon as possible.
