Shades of Darkness

Just remembered, and wanted to ask right away. At the beginning, what's with the misleading thing about the mine? If you revisit the mine where the Mistresses are and there's not much money, a message appears: "This place is safe." I thought, "Wow, that's a cool idea – like you run, hide in the mine, and they won't find you." But that's not the case. They found me, attacked, and ate me. Is this something that wasn't fully implemented, or is it just a blatant lie?
