In my opinion, the beginning is very challenging. After that, you don't need to bother with the purple faction (without heroes, it's practically useless), and the game becomes easier. But after defeating Grol (in the castle), there's some kind of trick from the Cardassians – you have to fight the Dominion, and we're not really ready for that. So, you can't defeat him until you've fully developed? It's scary to think what would have happened if I had accidentally defeated him at the very beginning.
