I'm playing on Recruit difficulty, and I've started the map twice. The game consistently crashes during the autosave on the first day.

That can't be. The last time I updated the map was in February, I think, and none of the players using the most recent version of the map have experienced crashes.
Create a new profile temporarily for playing – previous saves might also negatively affect the map.
