Judging by the "order" he gave, Alidum not only looked like one of the characters from a specific book, but also shared similar tendencies. He might even have been familiar with copies of such literature and drawn inspiration from them. He might even have projected himself onto these bookish demons. Or perhaps it was just a strange coincidence that he chose such a fate for Michaella. It would have been wiser to show mercy to his rival, even if it meant pretending to come up with something cruel and sophisticated. But after those tricks with the whip, it would be naive to expect anything wise from Alidum. His wisdom was limited to the first three letters of the word, and he hadn't yet grown to understand the rest. Perhaps he was trying to show the Orionian that it wasn't worth getting involved with him. A dubious method for many reasons, which would hardly have the desired effect and would most likely only add fuel to the fire. All that remained was to hope that both sides would continue to act within the rules, and that someone like Duncan would no longer provide such convenient tools to either side. Then Alidum would have to settle for something relatively harmless, such as attempting to replenish the NAILS library with the aforementioned literature.
