Hearing a gunshot from the direction of the men's dormitory, Gideon tensed, and his face grew even more somber. He would have to return there anyway, and if there was still a chance to interrupt this nightmarish spectacle, catch the perpetrator, and avoid further casualties, he should run now. However, he was stopped by Duncan's order. Watching the old general lumber and awkwardly waddle towards the door at the limit of his speed, the young man thought that by the time he got there, there might only be corpses left. But it seemed he would have to stay here and wait for the outcome.
A minute passed, then another... Gideon sat on a stool, staring at the empty space where Duncan had been. He felt like a prisoner awaiting the continuation of his interrogation. How could he have ended up in this situation? This is wrong. And his patience was gradually running out. He is not a prisoner, and no one is guarding or watching over him in this room. Although, perhaps he shouldn't leave it. But still, he needed to do something to understand what was happening. With a jerk, he got up from the stool and looked around the room.
I'm not quite sure where I am, but if there's a window, I'll look out of it and listen to the sounds outside; if not, I'll listen at the door.
Behind the door of Duncan's office in the academy building, it was so quiet that Gideon could have thought he was in a ghost town, but the noise outside, namely the sound of a pistol shot and the subsequent burst of something, shattered this illusion. However, from the window of this room, it was impossible to see what was actually happening.
