I built, just out of curiosity, a one-handed warrior and a pikeman from Ronstrad, worshipping Astaroth. Both have a few skill points left (5 for the one-handed warrior and 6 for the pikeman). Why this combo? Because it's one of the options I considered earlier (in case there are no cards available), with the adjustment that it included a two-handed weapon branch.

Preemptive Strike [5] Attacks each enemy that enters the attack range, Agility/5 times per round. If the enemy fails a Strength+Vitality check against the character's Strength check, the attack is interrupted.
The character with one-handed weapons has more attacks, accuracy, dodge, and Chance to Hit. The one-handed character can parry. They even dodge arrows better. The pikeman, on the other hand, has a slightly higher damage multiplier and a preemptive strike... the chance of it hitting the one-handed opponent is around 20%. The chance of interrupting the attack is about 35%, by the way. But the one-handed opponent will hit the pikeman with a chance of 70%~. If anyone is interested in how the pikeman compares to a two-handed warrior, the latter had more damage and health, half the parry, 10 less accuracy, and 12 less dodge. But it didn't have a preemptive strike or +1 range!
