Considering the nature of goblins, what was happening in Ephemera could be a prelude to something larger – perhaps preparation for an invasion campaign. And if such assumptions were correct, the payment for the job was disproportionately small compared to what their squad was supposed to prevent, even considering that eliminating such a threat was also in their personal interests.
