| Winds of Visteria, issue No. 961 New Year in Elheim Despite the protracted war in Western Visteria, those involved still do not forget about holidays. The key point of the southern front, as it is called in Serberia, became the city of Elheim in the province of the same name within the kingdom. Thanks to the efforts of Governor-General Eugene von Breckendorf, the main forces of Royenthal and Marion failed to advance deep into Serberian lands, while another part of the kingdom's military successfully roots out resistance forces within its own borders and, together with Nortia, advances deeper into Shengkai. Obviously, constant skirmishes take a heavy toll on soldiers' morale, so on New Year's Eve, the ruler of Serberia, Sophia der Grosse, personally visited the fire-ravaged province, where she not only inspired her subjects with yet another speech but even tried her hand at serving staff at the popular local establishment "Lalik". According to eyewitness accounts, it was quite an unusual sight. For instance, while mixing one of the ordered cocktails, the queen sent a glass sliding across the surface of the bar counter straight into the face of a customer who also happened to be a soldier of the Serberian army. They say that despite the cuts and injury he sustained, he was nonetheless satisfied with the quality of service. The Fall of Kuwayama The declaration of war by Miray, Serberia, and Nortia against Kuwayama half a year ago marked Reginleif and its allies joining this conflict. Despite fierce battles off the shores of Kuwayama that took place in the first days of the war following Miray's attack, the situation had remained relatively stable since then thanks to the intervention of the Reginleif fleet — naval engagements continued with some regularity, but land dwellers were long under no threat, as neither side could seize the initiative. The situation began to change toward the end of the year 780, when a massive Airisufir fleet led by Lucretia Ayr el Sufir and the empire's finest admirals set course for the shores of Reginleif. Given the looming threat over the heart of Arterian faith, a significant portion of the fleet guarding Kuwayama had to return home, and within a month after that, Miray won a crushing victory, first at sea and then on land. Fall of the Valkyrie Kayano Sayaka, one of Arteria's valkyries, had never been an advocate of violence and preferred to use her divine powers solely for the benefit of people, but in her quest to defend her homeland from invaders, she nevertheless had to make use of her stigmata in battle. Unfortunately, although she managed to inflict heavy losses on the enemy, she failed to keep her native home from falling into enemy hands, and her misfortunes did not end there. Miray's ground operation to capture Kuwayama was led by the ferocious General Sakamoto Ryuji. According to eyewitnesses, the losses inflicted upon his soldiers by the valkyrie enraged him so much that General Sakamoto decided to "teach the traitor a lesson" and "give a lesson" to the inhabitants of the defiant island. To that end, he brought the exhausted valkyrie to the town square and raped her there before the eyes of the residents, after which he granted the same honor to each of his soldiers as well. The situation was resolved only a week later, when General Sakamoto was recalled back to Shokuhō Island, where he was placed under house arrest for acting without authorization and disturbing public order. The fate of the valkyrie herself remains unknown. |
