Paprika (2006)

I only found two reviews of this anime from Hévéchan, and both are roughly in the style of "Haha, it's like Nolan's Inception, only even more nonsensical)))". I can't agree with that assessment. Although the anime does use surreal imagery, it's justified by the plot, as correctly noted, because the setting is similar to Inception, in that most of what happens also takes place inside dreams. But even the surreal elements that occur in the dreams mostly have a fairly clear narrative explanation, whether it's images that are somehow connected to the character's past and their subconscious thoughts, or simply a frightening nightmare sent by bad people. I liked the music, the imagery, the animation, the art style, the concept, and, of course, the fact that the dreams here really look like dreams, that is, as a set of bizarre and loosely connected events, unlike the aforementioned Nolan. I didn't like the climax, the resolution, and the fact that one of the positive male characters ended up without a girlfriend. Overall, it's pretty cool.
