But it turns out - he's a respected person, and the city guard showed him much more respect than they showed us - that's how respected he is. Truly, appearances can be deceiving. And you could say, "well, he's not even a person, he's a demon, a mutant!" But what is a "demon," really? It's nothing more than a label that means something unknown. I once read in a smart book that all demons come from the Abyss, where, according to some, the souls of sinners end up. But the Artery people don't believe in that! So what is the Abyss, then? It's just another place inhabited by other living creatures. Like the island of Mirai, where people live who are different from us in appearance and culture, so is the Abyss. But we know that Ryohei is a great guy, and the fact that he's from Mirai and different from us is by no means a criticism - on the contrary, it's precisely because of his differences that he can do things that are impossible for us and look at the situations we find ourselves in from a different cultural perspective, and thus reveal wisdom to us that would otherwise remain inaccessible. What's wrong with that? - Anders paused rhetorically, so that his listeners could think and understand that there was nothing wrong with it - the same is true of the Abyss. There is nothing inherently wrong with demons, as long as they don't cause harm or make others do so - just like with people, in general. And in this smart book, there were a bunch of different demons described - and I won't lie, most of them are either scoundrels or make others do scoundrelly things. But there is one - his name is "Kasha" - who doesn't make the person who makes a contract with him do anything at all. Can you imagine? A demon-alturu...altara... A good demon, in general. And this same "demon" doesn't give his contractor any superpowers, nothing like that, but simply occasionally shares useful advice with him. Agree, there's nothing terrible about that? Essentially, it's the same as asking Ryohei for advice - just a chance to listen to a different point of view. Well, if that's the case, would you condemn your comrade, your brother, if he made a contract with Kasha for the common good? I don't think there's anything reprehensible about it, and I certainly wouldn't condemn any of you - Anders felt a sudden dryness in his throat, and his confident tone changed to some kind of ingratiating stammer - well, and besides... well...
