I'm also in favor of selling the jewelry, especially if we need to buy potions. The GM is just trying to confuse us with the idea of a missed opportunity, as always, although the real question is whether that opportunity will even exist.
Selling the jewelry will give us enough money for the crossbow, potions, and some extra for the party's expenses.
