When the group finished their tasks, Kalentia visited the charred corpse of Rainer and, after sadly examining the man's remains, silently prayed for his soul. On this mission, their group encountered something far worse than the monsters that shunned the raginite lanterns – they encountered monsters in human form. Monsters that hide among ordinary people, pretend to befriend them, and, at first glance, seem to be doing the same things as everyone else. But, away from human eyes and in the company of their own kind, they reveal their true nature – profiting from the suffering of others, tormenting the innocent, and killing anyone who wanders into their lair. This was the first encounter of the students of Gungnir with a true enemy, and Kalentia's first encounter with the dark side of humanity. Most likely, it was also the first lives they took – especially in her case. And it was a strange feeling, even though the member of the "Moon Princess" she killed was hardly someone whose death anyone would mourn. Just like that, a single thrust of a spear – and the man falls motionless, his life forever leaving his body. Or, like the case of Rainer lying before her – their squad was supposed to save the man, but inexperience and slowness took their toll, and now his death was on their conscience. If they had acted differently, it could have been avoided. Even the casualties on their own side, in the form of Veserod and Rohey, they managed to avoid only by a miracle. And all this, despite the fact that the main culprit of the tragedy successfully escaped. The only bright spot in all of this was that they managed to save at least a few innocent people from an unenviable fate. But this did not negate the fact that they could have done better and that none of them would remain the same after today.
