Unlike many of her comrades, Alessia wasn't tormented by nightmares that night. Perhaps because her memories of the ill-fated evening of February 1st didn't include the heavy blows of branches against her vulnerable flesh, the roots entangling her legs, or the pain and fear of imminent death brought by the tree's poison. She simply ran away from the cursed tree-creatures, covering her face with her hands... and then it was over. And they brought this girl here and treated her as if nothing had happened, as if her alcoholic father had simply left her on the doorstep of the baron's estate, as he had done with many others before her. They should have paid more attention to the one who may have had a direct connection to the fact that the population of Baldur didn't miraculously decrease by a dozen young people, and who had spent who knows how long in a state that no human being could endure. But judging by the fact that the baron, apparently, felt neither anxiety nor doubt when he ordered his wards to fight each other with weapons for his amusement, or when he sent a group of young men to the mercy of an army of tree-creatures, it's unlikely that such ominous circumstances could have disturbed him. Something ominous was also present in Yua herself. She was too perfect. Too cheerful. It was easier to find something dark in the Artery itself than in this offspring of the forest. Something was wrong, something was definitely wrong...
Idleness always led Alessia to all sorts of bad thoughts, and those, in turn, led to a sad and completely unproductive mood. Finally pulling herself together, she gathered her things and headed to the Mariendorf estate. After the clash with the cursed trees, the idea of learning at least the basics of self-defense began to seem less idiotic to Alessia, and she should first find out if her mentor needed her today.
