There's another issue... some units under guard, which should theoretically join (friendly troops blocked by enemy NPCs), are sometimes ignored – they want to fight! Is this intentional? I'm playing with friendly troops, meaning there are no stray units in my army.
Next... the same enemy NPCs, which should be blocking friendly units, sometimes end up "under guard" of my potential troops. So, I first join my own troops, and then attack the "guard" all at once.
Furthermore... I tried repeatedly, using save/load, to attack the guards of objects from other factions, and... up to 5 packs tried to join me (I would have had enough money), I could assemble a completely random army.
I don't have leadership or diplomacy skills.
... the mentor in the basement gave me the basics of an undefeatable spell... and I can't undo it now... luckily, I saved before talking to the mentor.
