With Retribution, I can choose a Ghoul, you, or almost any melee unit that will be in the front line; that's the picture I have in mind. So, in a vacuum, it's a non-stop retaliatory attack from a bow. And about Onslaught – it's just an additional example of synergy; it's secondary.
