The second surprise was Daniel – a perpetually joking boy who, nevertheless, easily defeated many opponents. It was clear how bored he looked when the penalty for a poor performance was announced, which, apparently, gave him extra strength. Whether it was luck or a flash of talent, he managed to hit Veserod lightly, causing him to cough, but the lack of any serious practice with a crossbow made itself felt. At the moment when Veserod's final arrow crunched into the bridge of his opponent's delicate face, the hunter thought that this boy could have a great future, if he would just get his act together.

Having finished with all the battles, Daniel breathed a sigh of relief. The boy had hoped to avoid all this fighting after the battle with Shino, but, alas, it was not to be, so he had to fight everyone. The first battles were easy and effortless for him. Then, the battle with Gulveig tired him out a bit, which is why the slightly exhausted boy lost two battles in a row. Later, he no longer had much hope and was already counting on at least not joining the club of people who like to clean, when suddenly he found a second wind, and victories began to come one after another.
Therefore, perhaps, before the obviously losing battle with the obvious champion of the impromptu tournament, Daniel decided that instead of giving up, because it was clear that the Grimvalde would not be able to catch the nimble archer on foot to hit him with a stick, he would take the trophy crossbow and try to fight back, trying to dodge the arrows and bring the fight to a draw. Unfortunately, it was impossible to dodge all the arrows of the accurate fighter, but a sudden discovery was a whole (!) hit, which Daniel did not expect at all.
On the one hand, the boy could not help but be glad that he had achieved something, on the other hand, it was a little sad to realize that he still did not become the best, but only entered the top three, scoring the same number of points as the Mirai. However, even if he had somehow miraculously defeated Veserod, Daniel would not have become the winner, so it was easier to be glad that he would not have to waste time cleaning the territory – one of the most disgusting activities that teachers somehow like to assign.

“Did you see what I can do!” – the boy said to Matthias while waiting for the tournament results to be announced. He held the very crossbow in his hands. “Maybe you should start teaching me how to use this thing? After all, Andreas showed quite good results under your guidance. He even defeated the local champion.”
