-- I wish that this day's visit had but a single purpose -- to send a couple of modest works to press... Alas! Days of turmoil are upon Kanamia's threshold, and in these days the blight sprouts in the hearts of men throughout our land. And so I must ask: have there appeared any mischievous writings that men of darkness might have brought to the doorstep, and is there any place of secret struggle waged quietly through the lines of books? I would fain know what books breathe with nowadays, perhaps I shall uncover something hidden among the lines.
- With crimson blood and wood ash, my lord may test the people's true temper in this historic hour. The woman presents the guest with a book bound in black leather, on the front of which was written "Tezothborn" in scarlet letters. - An ancient work by Spline Deus, it has found great demand among the younger generation.
-- What a man knows not, he cannot lose, -- Ambrose chuckled in response to the words about "testing the temper." -- Strange it is, and even unhealthy -- he was a ruler from a quiet era, his words are quite unnecessary to us in our storm-laden age, as if... Ambrose estimates how long it would take to skim through the text.
- "The visible rests upon illusion, and the form is deceitful while the essence remains hidden," -- apparently, the interlocutor's response to Ambrose's comment was a quote from the very book they were discussing. The knight may acquaint himself with its (the book's, not the interlocutor's) contents on his faction's turn.
-- Do we deem the simple oft absurd, and white appears to us as black? These words are dangerous in an age of turmoil. They can be turned to great ill, and until I study the work in detail, you shall not publish it further! -- Ambrose concluded resolutely, striking the floor with the butt of his spear, but a moment later he softened slightly. -- Yet I wish you no ruin, and so that the printing may continue, I am prepared to offer a couple of manuscripts in turn. Perhaps my biography, or sirventes full of valor, or a genre a-la "fantasy in verse" that might distract the people of the capital and other lands from dark and barren thoughts for a time.
