Hi everyone. I think many of you know that for years the community has been trying to add new factions to Heroes V without replacing the original ones. But due to the engine's limitation of 8 factions, it's impossible to create a full-fledged new faction, and the only option left was to replace one of the existing ones.
But now neural networks and all sorts of cool, awesome, mind-blowing, stunning, amazing things have developed. In particular, just a few days ago, Universal Modder for Claude appeared, which allows you to explore game EXEs and help with modifying the engine itself.
So here's the question: is it theoretically possible now to bypass the 8-faction limit and add a full-fledged 9th faction without replacing the original ones? For example, something like nagas with their own town, creatures, heroes, etc.
Or is the limitation so deeply embedded in the engine that even with modern tools it's still unfeasible?
As far as I know from sources close to the development of all sorts of such things, the technical capability already exists. But the amount of work required to add new factions includes not just expanding IDs, and there are higher priority tasks (bugs, optimization), so a new faction is not expected from these sources anytime soon. It would be cool, of course, to simply get an ID expansion in the form of a yml patch for the deflactor app) You'd need to ask the 5.5 team, who sometimes release public fixes, whether there are plans for factions.
