Well, that's not laziness, but a difference in approaches, Astral. Reven usually hands off characters from the quest, their roleplay, and similar elements to the players. Putting together another knight isn't a lengthy affair, generally speaking. But there's no guarantee the assembled knight will match the image the player had in mind.
That's true, actually. If the character was conceived by the player, I won't add anything of my own or roleplay them myself.

By the way, I have no idea how Reven's status application chance works. He probably hasn't specified it anywhere since some ancient exp. So as for the chance, no clue.
Whoever rolled higher on strength of spirit, that's who wins.
Father Nebka turned out to be such a successful NPC that I see no downsides to my approach.
And here it's not about good/bad. Some prefer the way you do it. Others prefer Reven's way. It's a matter of personal player preference and the GM's own comfort. I'd probably also take on the roles of NPCs tied to the backstory myself, having first discussed the character details with the player.

And what a roll it is. d20 + the character's strength of spirit?
The size of the "die" equals the spirit stat. For Ninahisami that would be 1d10 against Lorican's 1d18.
