Why?
Because a reverse grip is only used against prone opponents. Otherwise, you lose all the advantages of your weapon and get something you'll still have to work hard to land a hit with.
Well, I don't have that much real-life experience in knife fighting, to be honest. Let's just say the strongest character gives the opponents a head start to even the odds a bit.
