— What grievances are you talking about? Only fun! — Stefania exclaimed with a smile. — In that case, I shall temporarily take my leave of you. But soon we will reunite at the nearest competition. I wish you the very best of luck!
With these words, Stefania left the chocolate shop and made her way to Adalard:
— May I address you? — the girl saluted out of the habit instilled by her father and Amelia, as if they were in a work setting.
Stefania reported on her observations. About how the foreigner had been conversing with Aldelion the whole time, how he had shown the young lad his bow, and about the part of their conversation she had managed to overhear.
— I draw your attention to the fact that this foreigner has, by all appearances, impressed your son and won him over considerably, — Stefania concluded. — I cannot presume to judge whether that is good or bad. Otherwise, nothing unusual has been observed about him.
Having finished her report, the girl stated that, with her lord's permission, she would like to conclude this assignment. She justified this by her desire to take part in all the upcoming competitions.
— As the only Knight representing our precious Guildaria, I intend to try to uphold the honor of our region in all the proposed trials. Even if I do not win, I will at the very least not retreat until the very end. I also count on learning the combat tricks of my colleagues, and subsequently compiling a detailed report on my observations. I hope you will allow me this?
- So that's how it is. One can only hope that he sets a good example for Aldelion.
The Lord of Guildaria pondered whether it might make sense to restrict communication between his son and the mercenary, but deciding that this could lead to a tantrum of youthful disappointment in front of the lords of the entire kingdom, he preferred to hold off on that.
- Well said, Knight of the Wind! Let the whole country, from north to south and from west to east, know of Guildaria's strength!
Elated by the lack of any need to keep an eye on the one-eyed man and the juvenile moron young heir, the girl went to sign up for every available activity.
She understood that her chances of a clean victory in the duels and the brawl were rather low, because she did not possess any extraordinary abilities, and some Knights intended to fight on wyverns. But that did not mean she could not secure a respectable position.
The elegance competition sounded more like a joke. But for that very reason, she wanted to take part in it even more. Stefania had no hopes of winning there, but the event promised to be fun.
The erudition competition seemed the most interesting. Showing herself on the writing front had always been the most appealing to Stefania. And on top of that, the topic was quite interesting and seemed not too difficult.
Finally, the archery competition. This was where Stefania's passion burned the brightest, and walking away with an outright defeat would have been the most disappointing of all.
Having submitted her application to participate everywhere she possibly could, Stefania turned her gaze to those around her. Everyone was having a wonderful time. Some were flirting, some were dealing with the priestess's unusual gift, some were dancing, some were engaged in lively discussions. The Knight of the Wind, however, remained in such a large gathering and yet alone with herself. Apart from the Knight of Chocolate, no one sought to spend their leisure time with her, let alone invite her to dance.
Perhaps the reputation of the daughter of the Iron Knight, who guards his daughters most zealously, was making itself known. Although, one would think, what do Knights have to fear? Perhaps it was something else. In any case, Stefania felt no awkwardness against this backdrop. The girl simply remained to observe and seek the inspiration she had been lacking while she spent her time watching the foreigner.
