Artifact slots.

Is it possible to make some artifact slots in a hero's inventory equivalent? For example, with two ring slots, the game doesn't care which slot I put my ring in. Is it possible to make it so that an artifact can be placed, for example, either instead of a shield or instead of a helmet? I have little hope that this is possible, but it's worth asking.
