So how did the "first move, wall point-blank" move come about?
Morale has nothing to do with it; what matters is that they stand still. In online play, this is needed to immediately place two walls (e.g., in the Griffon Conservatory) or sometimes the combo "wall, attack magic, wall" is used. When damage is insufficient, they need to start immediately after passing through two walls. From the starting positions, almost all stacks take heavy damage. Then, when they go back through the two walls, the stacks will start dying. This is the key moment. When only 3 stacks remain, it doesn't matter much. Another thing is that my version exploits the moment when the champions are undone by their cavalry bonus, and instead of moving in and killing the fairy point-blank, they collect all 6 tiles and die, but that situation also seems fairly standard.
Why didn't I like this fight? Because it's one of those "here's a hero and army, attack and kill" scenarios. There are no options for maneuvering; the number of fairies is fixed for the entire walkthrough, as I understand it. If only there were more fairies, so you could leave some in the tower and pick them up later if needed. That's if we're considering average players. The next fight, as I understand it, is from the same series — they give you Hypnosis, then attack and kill. Apologies if my superficial assessment is off the mark. I prefer maps where you need to prepare for battles and have room to maneuver. But maps like these with such fights should also exist and will find their admirers.
