To be honest, I don't understand why Dandy is so upset. Did the author not give him a good hint? It seems to me that the author's goal is to make the walkthrough more challenging, not easier. I agree about the cubic equation; not everyone will find the trick with variable substitution, but people figured it out hundreds of years ago.
The author's primary task is to make the walkthrough interesting. The player should use their brain and apply their knowledge of the game effectively. There is nothing interesting in simply trying out different options and finding a solution that is not easily explained logically. A similar situation occurred on Ed's map in the battle with 6 dragons, and not only there. By the way, I helped test the map at an early stage of development, and I know that initially, more hints for the player were planned in those places where otherwise there would be a mindless trial-and-error approach. I don't know why they were removed.
